The sterile atmosphere of the room was stifling at best. It was nothing like the wildness that Jake had become accustomed to, where greenery grew on all sides, dirt was an ever constant companion, and the occasional bramble bush was waiting in the wings, prepared to strike like a deadly viper at the unprotected skin of your knees and elbows. Here, the only sign of greenery was that somber tree that could be seen growing outside in the courtyard, its branches scraggly and bare from abandonment.
